How to Set Goals
Simple instructions for goal setting

The simple truth to achieving any self improvement project as to understand the bottom-line basics of goal setting. Once you understand the simple process of organizing your thoughts, you can expect an immediate improvement in the direction of your life.

Decide & Define the Destination
It’s important to get a clear picture of what you are trying to accomplish. Whether you want to make a large life change, or just establish a new personal habit for yourself, know where you’re going!
Be clear, specific and as detailed as possible.

Write It Down
Have you ever gone to the grocery store and forgotten something? You better believe that if you don’t right down your goals and see them often, they will be forgotten. The sheer fact that a goal is written down puts it in the top 5% to succeed. Think of it this way…How can you hit a target you can’t see?  Write it down!

Set a Plan of Action
After writing your goal, list the steps to take to complete the task. Think of everything you need to do or change in order for the goal to be reached. For example, if you are doing a personal image makeover, give yourself a once over. Do you need to lose some weight, get a hair cut, get your teeth fixed or but new clothes? Set a plan to tackle each mini project. If you are setting a goal to get debt free, work out the numbers to fit your current budget. Set a realistic payment plan for your goals achievement. Break each action down into step-by-step, doable increments. Remember, you can’t eat an entire pie in one bite; it needs to be cut into pieces.

Put a Date on It

Now that you know what you want to achieve and the steps to take, set a date for its accomplishment. Take your time on this one; be sure you believe the goal can be accomplished if you follow the steps you outlined in your Plan of Action. It needs to be reasonable, but stretch yourself enough to get moving!

TAKE ACTION!

Now all that is left is taking the necessary action. This will require discipline. Most often people will come up with a great goal and action plan, but need to work harder on the follow through process. Taking action now will be the determining factor for the outcome of your goal.  To keep motivated and focused be sure to revisit your goal often throughout the day. Applaud yourself for every small effort you make towards accomplishing your goal.

Goal setting is simple. Remember that when the obstacles come (which they always do) you have decided to do what needs to be done, when it ought to be done, whether you like it or not.

Now….set goals and win!
